Close your eyes… and believe in faeries…

Sunday, May 29th, 2005

Six years ago, after having officially been surfing the net for about 8 months, I logged on one day and decided I wanted to make my very own website. Granted, I hadn’t a clue in heaven how to do that, but I thought I’d give it a shot.

Back in those days free web service were much more reliable, and pretty much ad free. I acquired some space at geocities and l began. At the time geocities had a WYSIWYG editor. And being that I never had even heard of HTML, WYSIWYG worked for me. So I used it and I created my very first website.

All about faeries.

It was awful. I must have covered every taboo that a first-timer could make. Brightly colored text on a black background with lots of colored stars. Blinking animated stars and faeries everywhere. No site flow or proper navigation to speak of. I only wish I still had it in it’s original form. It would be perfect to show my students on what NOT to do when making a web site.

Anyway, it was god-awful, but I loved it. It was mine, and I made it all by myself. But I soon grew tired of WYSIWYG, and my brightly colored site (all of it’s images were blatantly TAKEN from other sites as well). So I assigned myself to learning HTML, and to becoming familiar with this crazy Photoshop program someone had installed on my computer (PS 4.0 at the time). And I redid my site completely. With my own code, and my own HTML. I was so proud.

Little did I know at the time it would spark my interest in web design and computer illustrating. Little did I know that 6 years later I would end up where I am today. All because of my little faery site.

I stopped updating the site years ago. But due to pure nostalgia I could never let it go. So I kept it up on geocities until I got my own domains, then put it up there just for safe keeping. Just to go back and look at it for the fun of it.

And so today I present it to you. A little peek into the beginning of my web career. You are welcome to come in, but I will ask you to leave your shoes at the door, and please don’t move anything. It’s a historical area *grin*

The Enchanted Realm of Mystiq Rose

It’s fun to look at, even though it is a little strange. I will warn you though, if you venture to far in you will probably get lost. It has a LOT of pages.

  1. Very cute. But, where’s the MC Fairy?? I thought you invented her.

  2. Lol re: AuntAnnie’s comment.

I love the site. It’s like going into the Internet Archives (like Yahoo back in 96: http://web.archive.org/web/19961017235908/http://www2.yahoo.com/)

You showed quite a bit of talent huh, even from the beginning. Tis a pity I’ve lost all my archives, though strangely Geocities has kept my space even several years after I’ve ditched it…

Wow. Six years ago… I was still gawking at Apple Macintoshes and playing Corsair… Illo the old timer ;-) (no offence)

  3. aww I love it. Thank you for sharing.
